Information and communication technologies are now considered core parts of modern health systems. Current advances in Data Science and Digital Health development are predicted to have a beneficial effect on health care services delivery to the community by enabling patients, and their families, to access faster, more efficient care. However, this predicted success relies greatly on improved involvement from patients and their families in the entire trajectory of conception through to digital tool development, to establish their trust, guidance, and stewardship. Despite efforts towards greater patient involvement, it remains a problem in Digital Health research. As a result, many of today’s Digital Health applications lack true patient centricity. This is a problem because patients need meaningful access to more complete data in order to manage and share their own health information to achieve optimal outcomes.
