DFP – Designing for People

DFP represents a people-centered design approach for interactive technologies. Designing for People means addressing human abilities, needs, and values via continuous innovation across diverse fields of inquiry to build a world where human-computer interaction is a seamless enhancement to our daily lives.

Constraints, Complexity and Usability

Computation permeates the systems, tools and media that we interact with on a daily basis. But just as people gain power and connectedness with smart buildings, phones, robots, medical devices etc, these systems also bring complexity and intractable constraints, leading to user outcomes that remain stubbornly inefficient, frustrating, and in some cases dangerous. Addressing these challenges, through thoughtful, research-intensive design is a grand challenge of our time.

Diverse Fields Converging on the Human Experience

DFP innovation must transcend disciplines. With common themes and patterns, DFP challenges exist in nearly every domain where people encounter advanced technology. We bring together experts in computer science, mechanical engineering, architecture, electrical and computer engineering, nursing and other disciplines, who have collaborated on numerous scientific research and design projects to date.

Cyber Physical Applications

3D modellers, haptic designers, animators, software developers, engineers, architects and data visualization experts at DFP are creating the next generation of design methods. Our mission is to develop the cyber-physical products of the future: mobile and wearable devices, built-environment applications, health care applications, assistive living technologies, robotic controls, augmented reality platforms, digital entertainment and more…
