Adaptive Support for Learning Via Interactive Simulations

Open-Ended Exploration of Interactive Simulations

Lead: Cristina Conati

This project tackles the challenge of helping users learn from open ended exploration of interactive simulations. Data mining techniques are leveraged to learn from data:

  1. which interaction behaviors are detrimental vs. conducive to effective exploration;
  2. forms of feedback that can support the effective behaviors and discourage the detrimental ones.

We have shown the effectiveness of the approach with several interactive simulations for learning, and are now investigating its application to drive personalized guidance to students learning from Massive On-line Open Courses (MOOCs).
