Antecedents and Learning Outcomes of Exploratory Search Engagement is supported by a SSHRC Insight Grant (2016-2019). This research frames exploratory search as an educational and societal investment. We are exploring the intersection of individual characteristics (e.g., topic and search expertise), tasks (e.g., complexity), user engagement, and learning processes and outcomes in exploratory search environments. We are grappling with how to evaluate learning in search environments, and the extent to which engagement aids learning in exploratory searching.
