Modern computing -- laptops, devices, and cloud storage -- have enabled people to store unprecedented amounts of digital data. It is almost no longer necessary to delete files, apps, pictures, texts, contacts and other such digital data. But our work has shown that near infinite storage can be problematic for some users, as it can lead them to feel overwhelmed. In this project we are characterizing individual differences in response to managing digital data and we are designing tools that provide support for the varied approaches to data management that we have observed.
